Beijing Weather & Clothing Guide - Dress for Every Season
Hidden Beijing Guide

Beijing has distinct four seasons with extreme temperatures in summer and winter. Spring brings dust storms, and autumn is perfect. Dressing appropriately makes or breaks your sightseeing experience.

Spring (March to May)

Temperatures: 5-25C (41-77F). Weather is unpredictable with warm days and cool evenings. March has occasional dust storms. April brings blooming flowers. May is warm and pleasant. Pack layers - t-shirts, light jacket, long pants. Bring a dust mask for March. Umbrella for April showers.

Summer (June to August)

Temperatures: 25-35C (77-95F) with high humidity. July and August are hot and can be rainy. Air quality is generally better than winter. Wear light, breathable fabrics. Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are essential. Light rain jacket for sudden showers. Stay hydrated.

Autumn (September to November)

Temperatures: 10-25C (50-77F). This is the BEST time to visit. Clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and beautiful foliage. September is warm, October is perfect, November is cool. Pack light layers, a light jacket or sweater for evenings. Long pants recommended.

Winter (December to February)

Temperatures: -10 to 5C (14-41F). Dry and cold with occasional snow. Wind chill makes it feel colder. Heavy down jacket, thermal layers, hat, scarf, gloves, and warm boots are essential. Indoor heating is excellent so dress in layers you can remove inside.

Air Quality Considerations

Winter has more pollution due to heating. Summer is generally better. Check air quality index (AQI) daily. Bring N95 or KN95 masks if you are sensitive. Indoor air is usually filtered in hotels and malls. Many attractions have indoor sections if air quality is poor.
