Hidden Beijing Guide

In an emergency in Beijing, knowing the right numbers and having them accessible can save critical minutes. This page is designed to be printed and kept in your wallet. All numbers have been verified as active in May 2025. Save the most important ones in your phone before you travel.

Beijing Emergency Hotlines (24/7, Some with English)

Police: 110. This is the universal emergency number in China. Operators speak Chinese only. If you call 110, immediately say 'English please' (请说英语 - qing shuo ying yu). Some operators can connect you to an English-speaking line. If not, hand the phone to a Chinese speaker nearby. Better approach: go to the nearest police station. Every Beijing police station has at least one English-speaking officer (since the 2022 Olympics). Show the Chinese text: '我需要帮助,请帮我找一位会说英语的警官' (I need help, please find an English-speaking officer). Ambulance: 120. Chinese-only operators. Best approach: do not call 120 yourself. Instead: call your hotel front desk and ask them to call an ambulance. OR go directly to Beijing United Family Hospital emergency room. OR call BJU at 4008-919191 (English operator) and ask them to dispatch an ambulance. Fire: 119. Rarely needed by tourists. Chinese-only operators. Traffic accidents: 122. For reporting traffic accidents. Chinese-only. Emergency translation service: 12345. This is the Beijing government service hotline. Some operators speak English. Not for emergencies but useful for non-urgent issues. Save the Hidden Beijing emergency phrase: '请帮我报警' (qing bang wo bao jing) = Please help me call the police. '我需要救护车' (wo xu yao jiu hu che) = I need an ambulance. Print these on a card and keep them in your wallet.
